"In New Hampshire, three wealthy Republican candidates spent $15 million before the primary last Tuesday, mostly from their own pockets. The winner, Craig Benson, the co-founder of Cabletron Systems, spent $9 million, or about $160 per vote. That is even more than the roughly $100 per vote that Michael R. Bloomberg, the billionaire New York mayor, spent to win his job last year."
