Hill will be offered the chance to shower and will trade in his prison jumpsuit for a white, short-sleeved, button-down shirt and dark pants. A prison doctor, the same one who will pronounce Hill dead, will offer him a Valium for his nerves and explain the procedure. Hill will be strapped to a gurney and rolled into the execution chamber.


6 p.m.
Twelve media and 12 official witnesses will be seated in the witness room outside the chamber. No friends or relatives of Hill's victims had arranged to attend by late Tuesday.


Hill will be offered the chance to make a last statement before an anonymous, hooded executioner starts the flow of lethal drugs. Most inmates are rendered unconscious in less than 30 seconds, but it can take more than 15 minutes for the heart to stop beating.




Paul Hill of Florida is sentenced to death for killing a doctor of an abortion clinic and his bodyguard in 1994. In an interview yesterday he said frankly he is certain he will be awarded after death and is looking forward to it.
